Hisar Evi Cave Hotel Esentepe Mah. Tahirbey Sok. Ortahisar - Nevsehisr, CAPPADOCIA
Hisar Evi is situated in the quiet old town of Ortahisar which means " Middle Castle " and takes it name from the old rock castle that rises up majestically in front of the hotel. This stands amidst a maze of old caves and houses; some deserted some occupied much as they have been for centuries.
The town, like much of the region is pre-Roman and has retained its character well having been fortunately a bit overlooked by the tour buses. The tranquility of the location is interrupted only by the occasional dog barking, village chatter or the calls to prayer that echo around the valleys that surround the castle. Cars are infrequent. Bedrooms are unique in design and layout and are amongst the most generous-proportioned in the region. Nine are converted from Bysantine old caves and one from a traditional stone arched room. The caves, insulated by the volcanic "tuff" rock stay at a comfortable temperature throughout the year and there are log fires in most rooms to add to the coziness when the weather is cooler. Each room has a bath, shower and WC in a large bathroom, telephone, tea or coffee making facilities and a hair dryer.
Eat or relax in the salon or in one of the many outside terraces. The covered terrace has a great panoramic view of the castle, old town and countryside. The hotel also has a large (approximately 90 square meter) Ottoman Lounge that can be used for group activities or for relaxing in. The view again is excellent on three sides. Breakfast is a traditional buffet-style spread with local bread, jams, honey, olives, local cheeses and salad as well as cereals.Lunch can be arranged according to individual needs A four course dinner is selected from the local cuisine menu and is changed daily. Soup is follwed by hot and cold appetisers, main course and dessert. Some dishes are cooked in a "tandir", a clay oven sunk into the ground. Vegatarian diets can be accomodated. The local wine comes from small vineyards and is very palatable.
