Hippodrome, Sultanahmet Square

The Hippodrome, Sultanahmet Square is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Istanbul. The square is home to the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, and the Basilica Cistern. The Hippodrome was originally built by the Roman Emperor Constantine in the 4th century AD. It was used for chariot races and other public events. The Blue Mosque was built in the 17th century by Sultan Ahmet I. The Hagia Sophia was built in the 6th century by Emperor Justinian. It was the largest church in the world for over a thousand years. The Basilica Cistern was built in the 6th century by Emperor Justinian. It is the largest surviving Byzantine cistern in Istanbul.
