Across northern Cappadocia, this full-day private Red Tour runs from about 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM with hotel pickup and drop-off, a private air-conditioned vehicle, and an English-speaking guide. You start at Uçhisar Castle, the region’s highest point, then drive to the Göreme Open Air Museum, a UNESCO site with rock-cut churches like the Dark, Apple, and Snake chapels.
From there the route takes in Göreme village, Devrent Valley, and Paşabağ’s fairy chimneys. Lunch is included at a local restaurant, followed by a pottery workshop in Avanos, Çavuşin Village, and a photo stop at the Rose or Red Valley viewpoint. Expect walking on uneven ground, so wear comfortable shoes.
After breakfast, between 9:00 and 9:30 AM, your private guide picks you up from your hotel and gets you settled in an air-conditioned vehicle. Times can flex a little based on where you're staying. The Red Tour covers Cappadocia's northern sights, so your guide will walk you through the plan on the way. First stop is Uchisar Castle, the highest point in the region. Climb the carved tunnels for wide views over the valleys and, on clear days, out to Mount Erciyes. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water; the steps get busy by mid-morning.
Next you'll drive about 10 minutes to the Goreme Open Air Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This rock-cut monastic complex holds churches and chapels from the 10th, 11th, and 12th centuries, many with painted frescoes still on the walls. Your guide points out the Dark Church (Karanlık Kilise), the Apple Church (Elmalı Kilise), and the Snake Church (Yılanlı Kilise). Plan on about 90 minutes here, mostly on foot over uneven paths. The Dark Church has a small separate entrance fee if you want to see its best-preserved frescoes.
From there you'll pass through Göreme village, where cave houses and small hotels are cut straight into the soft tuff. Then it's on to Devrent Valley, sometimes called Imagination Valley for its rock shapes that look like animals and figures. There are no churches here, just the formations. Nearby Paşabağ Valley has some of the best-formed Fairy Chimneys, with dark basalt caps sitting on cones where hermit monks once carved cells and chapels.
Around midday you'll stop for an included Turkish lunch at a local restaurant. Expect regional dishes like testi kebabı (pottery kebab), fresh flatbread, mezes, and seasonal salads. After lunch you'll head to Avanos on the Kızılırmak River, a pottery town that's worked the red riverbank clay since Hittite times. A workshop demonstrates the foot-powered wheel, and you can try shaping a piece yourself.
In the afternoon you'll visit Çavuşin Village, with abandoned cliff dwellings and the old Church of St. John the Baptist. Then a photo stop at the Rose Valley or Red Valley viewpoint, where the tuff turns pink and orange in the late light. If time allows, your guide may add a quick look over Love Valley and its tall chimneys. You'll be back at your hotel around 4:00 to 4:30 PM. END OF OUR SERVICE AND TOURS.

Yes. Because it's private, your guide can adjust the pace and skip anything that isn't working for younger kids. There's a lot to look at, though the walking is over uneven rock, so keep an eye on little ones near the cliffs.
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) bring mild weather and clear views from the viewpoints. Summer days are long but hot, and winter can add snow to the chimneys. The tour runs year-round in 2026.
