Colossi of Memnon
The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. For centuries, they have stood in the Theban Necropolis, located west of the River Nile from the modern city of Luxor, Egypt. In ancient times, the statues were known as the "Living Statues" because locals believed that they could hear them speak at dawn. Today, they are a popular tourist attraction.
The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. The statues are located on the west bank of the Nile River, opposite the city of Luxor. The statues are made of sandstone and are approximately 18 meters (59 feet) high. The statues depict Amenhotep III seated on a throne, with his hands resting on his knees.
