Hierapolis Ancient City is located at 24 km from Denizli and was founded by the Bergama King Eumenes II in 190 B.C. The city was named after “Hiera” who was the beautiful wife of the legendary hero Telefos and it also means “holy city”. The ancient city of Hierapolis, the original site of Pamukkale, was known as the Holy City in archaeological literature because of the abundance of temples and other religious structures in the area.

Nestled in Turkey’s picturesque landscape, Hierapolis offers a unique blend of natural and historical wonders. This ancient city, famed for its well-preserved ruins and thermal springs, is a marvel of Greco-Roman architecture. Visitors can explore the vast necropolis, Roman theatre, and the Plutonium, a sacred space dedicated to the god Pluto. The nearby Pamukkale terraces, with their cascading white limestone pools, create a breathtaking backdrop. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hierapolis attracts those interested in history, archaeology, and natural beauty.
