Crowning a hill above Ankara, the Atatürk Mausoleum (Anıtkabir) is a modern mausoleum and complex holding the tomb of Turkey’s founder—Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who died in 1938. Built between 1944 and 1953, the complex draws thousands of Turkish nationals and other visitors who come to honor the much-revered leader.

The Mausoleum of Ataturk is the final resting place of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder and first president of the Republic of Turkey. The mausoleum was designed by Turkish architect Emin Onat. Construction began in 1944 and was completed in 1953. The mausoleum is located on an elevated plaza overlooking Ankara. It is one of the most visited monuments in Turkey.
