Follow this 6-Day Cairo, Aswan and Luxor Tour through three of Egypt’s key destinations, starting in Cairo with an airport meet-and-greet and a free first day. From there, the route covers the Giza Pyramids, the Great Sphinx, Sakkara’s Step Pyramid, and Memphis with its Statue of Ramses II.
In Cairo you also visit the Egyptian Museum, Salah El Din Citadel, the Hanging Church, and Khan El Khalili Market, plus a felucca ride on the Nile. The trip then continues to Aswan for the High Dam, Philae Temple, and Unfinished Obelisk, before Luxor and its ancient sites. Breakfast and some lunches are included.
Welcome to Egypt. Whenever your flight lands in Cairo, our representative will be waiting in the arrivals hall with a signboard showing your name.
After a quick hello, you'll ride to your hotel in a private air-conditioned car. The drive from Cairo International to the Giza hotel area takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic.
The rest of the day is yours to rest and settle in. If you want an evening out, ask us in advance about the Pyramids Sound & Light show (about €65 per person, booked before you travel).
No meals are included today. Bring a light jacket for the plane and comfortable clothes for the transfer.
After breakfast, around 8:30 AM, your private guide will pick you up at the hotel and drive to the Giza Plateau. The three Great Pyramids of Cheops were built for the pharaohs Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure. Khufu's is the largest, and it's the last of the ancient Seven Wonders still standing.
From there you'll walk over to the Great Sphinx of Giza. It's about 20 meters tall, with a human face and a lion's body, carved from a single limestone ridge.
Next comes a drive south to Sakkara, where the Pyramid of Djoser dates to the 27th century BC. It's the world's oldest large stone pyramid, ringed by temple ruins and columns.
Lunch is included today. You'll finish at Memphis, the old capital, to see the reclining Statue of Ramses II and the Alabaster Sphinx.
Expect a full day with plenty of walking on sand and uneven stone. Wear closed shoes, a hat, and sunscreen, and carry water. You'll be back at the hotel by late afternoon.
After breakfast, around 8:30 AM, you'll be picked up from your hotel and driven to the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square. It holds tens of thousands of pharaonic pieces, including gold from the Tomb of Tutankhamun.
Next you'll head up to the Salah El Din Citadel, built by Saladin in the 12th century. Inside stands the Muhammad Ali Alabaster Mosque, with wide views over the city from its terrace.
Lunch is included. In the afternoon you'll visit Coptic Cairo, seeing the Hanging Church and the nearby Ben Ezra Synagogue, one of the oldest in Egypt.
You'll wrap up at the Khan El Khalili Bazaar for tea and browsing, then a felucca sail on the Nile at sunset. Cover your shoulders and knees for the mosque and church, and expect a good amount of walking. Back at the hotel in the evening.
After breakfast, you'll check out and meet your coordinator for the transfer to Cairo's domestic terminal. The flight to Aswan takes about an hour and 20 minutes. Domestic luggage is usually limited to 20 kg, so pack accordingly.
Once you land, your Aswan guide will take you to the Aswan High Dam, finished in 1970, which created Lake Nasser upstream.
Next you'll cross by boat to the Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis and moved stone by stone to Agilkia Island. Then you'll stop at the Unfinished Obelisk, still lying in its granite quarry.
Only breakfast is included today. Aswan can get very hot, so bring water, a hat, and sunscreen. After the tour you'll check in at your Aswan hotel.
After an early breakfast, around 7:00 AM, you'll be picked up from your Aswan hotel for the drive north to Luxor. It runs about three hours along the Nile, so settle in and enjoy the farmland scenery.
On the west bank you'll visit the Valley of the Kings, where pharaohs including Tutankhamun were buried. You'll also see the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the two Colossi of Memnon.
Lunch is included. On the east bank you'll tour Karnak Temple, with its forest of giant columns, and Luxor Temple beside the river.
This is a long, hot day with a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes and carry water. In the evening you'll transfer to Luxor Airport for the roughly one-hour flight to Cairo, then back to your hotel.
After breakfast, take your time to pack. Hotel check-out is before 12:00 noon.
At the right time for your flight, your driver will meet you in the lobby and take you to Cairo International Airport. The transfer usually takes 45 minutes to an hour, though we allow extra for traffic.

You can enter some pyramids and tombs for a separate ticket bought on site. Your guide will point out which ones are open and worth the extra cost that day.
Egyptian domestic flights generally allow about 20 kg of checked baggage. Pack a lighter bag for the Aswan and Luxor legs to stay within the limit.
